Your Recovery Journey

This guide offers practical advice and gentle exercises designed to support your physical and functional recovery at home.

Why Activity Matters

During your ICU stay, physiotherapists helped you maintain mobility. Continuing this at home is vital because small, regular movements:

Improve Circulation
Strengthen Muscles
Clear Chest Mucus
Enhance Balance

Common Recovery Questions

Your breathing muscles have weakened just like your legs. It is common to feel out of breath even during simple tasks. Gradually increasing activity will "retrain" these muscles.

Sluggish circulation after a period of immobility causes fluid buildup. Elevating your limbs and performing ankle pumps or wrist movements several times a day will help.

While family support is wonderful, performing small tasks—like making a drink or washing your face—is essential "rehab." Aim for a balance: do what you can, then rest.

The Golden Rule of Rest

It is normal to need sleep. However, try to limit daytime naps to 20-30 minutes. If you are tired but can't sleep, try restful activities like reading or listening to music to avoid disrupting your nighttime rhythm.

Small Steps, Every Day

Keeping a daily diary of what you achieved (e.g., "Walked to the kitchen twice") is a great way to see how far you have come when you're feeling discouraged.

Quick Tip

Don't compare your Day 1 to someone else's Day 100. Recovery is a personal timeline.
